Refuse to take the hint

Dear all,

Just a quick reminder – if you’re in or around London on Wednesday evening, I’ll be performing a show based on this blog at the Bethnal Green Working Men’s Club, 44-46 Pollard Row E2 6NB at 7:30pm. The script is just about written now and it includes a shocking amount of new material as well as some of the funnier posts from here. If you approach me and tell me that you’re “off of the internet” then I might buy you a drink.*

All the best,
Joel

*Offer only valid in the event of the gig going well, me having the right change in my pocket and you being sufficiently complimentary about my performance. Terms and conditions apply.

  3. How can I be off of the Internet when I'm reading and commenting here on the Internet?

  5. Will this be recorded and made available online? My private jet is in the shop.

  6. I'm going to record it – if it goes well, I'll put a few clips on YouTube, but it'll just be a low-quality camcorder job.

  7. Psst... it would be "complimentary," not "complementary." :)

And I would so come, except for the fact that I'm a dependent 14-year-old stuck in Alabama. Heh.

  8. Free drinks, eh? Maybe I could get to London... perhaps you should've called this one 'Resort to bribery.'

I might trying wandering up to someone on Wednesday night and saying "Hi, I'm off of the internet, and Joel said you would buy me a drink." Although telling someone I'm off of the internet could have interesting ramifications... hmm.

  9. Well, what do you know – it is "complimentary." Unless, of course, I mean that you should be complementary to my performance – doing things that complement it well.

Just to be sure, you should do both.

  10. I will buy YOU a drink if you'll do a dramatic reading of the comments for at least one of these posts.

*Okay, I totally won't buy you a drink because I was hoping to catch a ride on the previous commenter's private jet and, apparently, it's in the shop. You should still do it.

  11. Did this happen? Did it get posted to You Tube? Did Joel buy drinks all round? We should be told.

  12. It did happen. It went far better than I expected, given that I only finished writing my script that morning. I will eventually have youtube clips for you, which I'll be sure to post here, but I'm waiting for the guy who filmed it to send me the footage.

In the meantime, there is someone who can vouch for the fact that it actually happened – Dogberry and Mrs Malaprop from Inky Fool. They came along, were utterly charming and I failed to buy them drinks. Never trust a performer.

  13. It was an amazing evening. I laughed. I cried. Then the barman told me those were the actual prices.

    Show wasn't bad either.
